DAN FOGLER of FANTASTIC BEASTS on His New Comic BROOKLYN GLADIATOR & More

Elliott had a fun discussion with writer and actor Dan Fogler about his upcoming comic book series “Brooklyn Gladiator” which will be released on Heavy Metal publications this summer. The two talked about all kinds of subjects including life after death, ridding the world of racism, his favorite on-screen character that he played, his biggest fear growing up as a kid, his favorite horror movie and more.

The interview started off with Elliott asking Dan what it’s like working with artist Simon Bisley on the new comic book series:

“I grew up reading Lobo and Heavy Metal Magazine, and Simon was a huge part of those books and to have him working on MY book is just like, unbelievable. It’s just a dream come true.”

Dan went into a little bit of detail about the premise of Brooklyn Gladiator with Elliott as well:

“It’s a cautionary tale about what happens if you have too much of a good thing. In this case, it’s nanites.”
He continued with “But what happens twenty years from now is that those nanites are embedded, they’re multiplying, they’re everywhere. It’s in everything. The hero John Miller rejects it. They’re constantly trying to inject him, ya know, in some way with nanites, and he has found a way to navigate the system.”

When asked who his favorite on-screen character that he played was, Dan revealed that he mostly enjoyed playing Jacob Kowalski from the “Fantastic Beasts” films:
I’m basically playing an ancestor. My great grandfather was a baker. He was a baker on the Lower East Side of New York so it’s very special to me. I feel like I’m fulfilling some kind of ancestral dream or something.”

Towards the end of the interview, Elliott asked Dan what he would love to rid the world of if he could choose one thing. And he responded with the following:
“Let’s say racism. If I had to put something at the top of the list. Maybe if we saw everybody as equal, then there wouldn’t be such a competition or a need to push anybody down.”
