Elliott visited the studio at WSOU 89.5FM Radio at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ with Lou Koller of SICK OF IT ALL to talk about his upcoming tour in support of their powerful new record, “Wake the Sleeping Dragon!” which is their 12th studio album in their long-standing career.
Elliott opened up the interview with a question about the song “Bad Hombres” from the album which is a critical take on President Trump’s border wall:
“The President’s solution, I don’t believe it’s the biggest problem in the United States right now. Like, building a wall, I don’t see what the importance of it is. I understand the immigration problem, I’m not an idiot, I know we don’t have unlimited resources. I know that people don’t wanna give up their taxes for other people or what some people call illegal people. But our song is about the fact that it’s not the solution to the problem. There’s better ways. There’s gotta be better ways, you know?”
When Elliott asked Lou what he thinks needs the most fixing right now in our country, he responded with the following:
“You can start with the healthcare problem. I’m not saying Obamacare was perfect. You know? It wasn’t. They have to figure that out. They have to figure out fair wages, the infrastructure. We can keep going, you know? There’s so much to be dealt with, you know? And it’s going to take a lot of bipartisanship. They can’t keep dividing like they are.”
At the end of the interview while talking about some of their favorite bands, Elliott mentioned RADIOHEAD and Lou went right into a tour story in which their team almost had it out with the tour managers for SICK OF IT ALL:
“We played a festival in Belgium. They were headlining the main stage. We were headlining the second stage. And they put us on at the same exact time, and the set’s going great. And we found out after our set, our sound man comes over and says ‘Hey, in the middle of your set, Radiohead’s people and the promoter came running over because they were doing an acoustic section and we were louder than their acoustic section.’ And he got into an argument and almost came into blows with Radiohead’s people because he was yelling at them saying ‘We didn’t put ourselves on the same time. Too bad. This is my band’s set. They have to do what they do!’ They wanted us to turn down in the middle of our set! But it turned out it wasn’t the band saying it, because apparently it got to them and they were like ‘We didn’t hear anything’. So it was just their people freaking out, you know, for no reason”.
Elliott and Lou also talk about getting picked on as a kid and much more in the interview which you can watch below:
